Alan started his career with Hearts in 1987 and made over 180 appearances for the Tynecastle club before moving to Rangers in 1994 - debuting in style with a 3-1 win over rivals Celtic at Hampden. Alan also won 24 caps for the Scotland national team in a highly successful career, before his playing days were cruelly cut short by a recurring knee injury in 1999.
Alan has been a regular supporter of Football Aid in recent years, and has played in a number of our charity matches at Tynecastle, Ibrox and Hampden. Still a tough competitor, his opposition players in Football Aid matches are treated to the same uncompromising defensive treatment that famously kept Roberto Baggio quiet in a World Cup qualifier in 1992.
Alan is pictured below, playing in Defence for the Hearts Away side in 2008.
