At just £30,000, Derek Mountfield proved to be an absolute bargain when Everton's Howard Kendall snapped him up from Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 1982. After collecting an FA Cup winners medal in the 1983/84 season, he proved a revelation the following year, scoring no less than 14 goals - a remarkable feat for a defender - as the Toffees clinched the League title and the Cup Winners Cup.
Derek can now be heard on Terrace Talk, Radio City's Saturday afternoon football phone-in, discussing Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers.
The following is taken from Radio City's profile on Derek, which can be found at www.radiocity.co.uk
